India Facts

Life in the slums of Mumbai is a rough life for the people who live there. They live in huts made from scratch. Some materials they use are plywood, pieces of aluminum, metal towels blankets and other things of that nature. They wash their clothes and bathe in pools of filthy water. They have little food so the people are thin. The way people earn money is to beg, make people pay to use the toilet, or they have a job that has little pay. Children will be begging in the streets trying to get some money for their parents.
Human trafficking in India is also a big problem.  They traffic men, woman and even children. They are trafficked for forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation and forced marriage. They traffic women for them to be prostitutes. The forced labor consists of working on brick kilns, rice mills, agricultural, and embroidery factories. Children are trafficked for factory workers, domestic servants, beggars, and agriculture workers, and they have been used in the army by some terrorist and insurgent groups. The children are used by people to make them do hard labor for no pay. They do the hard jobs that no one wants to do. One example of a job is working in the stone breaking industry. Children have to walk in a river to find and collect big stones to use for construction. Each stone they collect they have to carry the stones to shore where they are then broken up and construction companies come and collect them.
I think our movie is an accurate representation to real life in India. I think it would be too complicated for someone to try to make up how bad life is in India. I think the person who wrote the movie spent time in India observing how life in the slums is like to try to make his movie as accurate and realistic as possible. The scenes in the movie may be a little over exaggerated so that it makes it more interesting. But I think most of the scenes of life in India are realistic.
India has people living in the slums because it is so over populated. The current population of India is 1,173,108,018. The TFR is 2.65 children/per woman. Women try to have as many children as they can because the life expectancy is so low. The life expectancy is 66.46 years. The infant mortality rate is 49.13 deaths to 1,000 births.
India is having trouble with poverty. It is ranked 119th on the poverty line. 25 percent of its population lives below the poverty line. That is 46,924,320.72 people live in poverty. It is sad that that many people live in poverty in India.
